2026 Engineering Department Summer Students

Matachewan, centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay, and Sudbury, Ontario. With
a large Mineral Reserve base and strong ongoing free cash flow generation, Young-Davidson will serve

We are seeking driven and detail‑oriented Engineering Summer Students to support our underground
mining engineering department. This position provides hands‑on learning in a dynamic, modernized
mining environment, working closely with engineers, supervisors, geologists, and operations teams.
The successful candidate will gain practical experience in mine planning, data collection, technical
analysis, and field work within an active underground operation.
Location: Matachewan, Ontario
Employment Type: Full-Time, Summer Term
Department: Engineering/ Underground Operations
Primary Responsibilities:
Assist with daily engineering tasks, including:
• Underground field data collection (e.g., surveying, ventilation, ground support inspections)
• Updating and maintaining engineering drawings, plans, and databases
• Supporting short-term and long-term mine planning activities
• Monitoring development and production progress
• Assisting engineers with technical analyses and design work
• Conduct underground observations to support continuous improvement and operational
efficiency
• Prepare reports, spreadsheets, and documentation for projects and engineering studies
• Participate in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and follow all site safety protocols
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, geology, and mine operations
Qualifications
• Currently enrolled in a University or College program in Engineering (Mining, Geological,
Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related discipline)
• Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working in underground environments (all training provided)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Experience with engineering or mining software (e.g., Deswik, AutoCAD, Leapfrog, Amine,
Ventsim)
• Solid communication and teamwork skills
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
Work Schedule
Rotating shift schedule, 7 days on, 7 days off 11 hours per day, depending on department
requirements
Underground or Surface work may be required
Must have own transportation to and from mine, no camp available, however, some
accommodations can be made on a case-by-case basis
All required training and PPE provided
The company reserves the right to determine final selection and number of summer students hired. In
the event, there are more applicants, than number of positions available, the Company will determine
selection, based on previous site experience, good standing with grades and preference for students
pursuing or currently enrolled in a course of study that is related to the mining industry.
To be eligible to apply, student must be a minimum of 16 years of age to work on surface and 18 years
of age to work in underground operations.
