Job Description: Band Representative Financial Coordinator

The First Nation Band Representative Financial Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating financial activities within the ACSF Representative Program. In addition to financial management, this role also involves providing assistance and support in various ACFS programs. The individual in this position plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective financial administration and coordination of programs that contribute to the overall well-being and development of the community.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

Financial Management:  

Prepare and monitor the annual budget, ensuring adherence to financial guidelines and regulations for ACFS.

Manage financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and general ledger.

Conduct financial analysis and generate reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Coordinate and oversee ACFS audits and financial reviews to ensure compliance and accountability.

Provide financial advice and guidance to the Chief and Council, assisting in decision-making processes.

Grant and Funding Management:

Identify and research funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other sources.

Prepare grant applications and funding proposals, ensuring compliance with guidelines and requirements.

Monitor grant and funding agreements, ensuring proper reporting and accountability.

Liaise with funding agencies and maintain positive relationships to maximize financial support for programs.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

Prepare financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.

Ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements and regulations.

Coordinate the preparation of the ACFS annual financial statements.

Collaborate with auditors and regulatory bodies during the audit process.

 

Program Coordination and Support: 

 

Assist in the coordination and implementation of various First Nation programs and initiatives.

Collaborate with ACFS Team to develop program budgets and financial plans.

Provide financial guidance and support to program staff, ensuring efficient use of resources.

Participate in meetings and discussions related to program planning and evaluation. 

 

Relationship Building and Communication:               

 

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Collaborate with Chief and Council, community members, and staff to address financial concerns and provide regular updates.

Communicate financial information and reports in a clear and understandable manner.

Represent ACFS in financial matters and meetings with external partners.

 

Qualifications and Skills: 

 

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Knowledge of First Nation governance structures, financial management practices, and relevant legislation (e.g., Indian Act).

Experience in financial management, budgeting, and reporting.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in financial software and MS Office applications.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Knowledge of grant and funding processes is an asset.

Familiarity with First Nation programs and initiatives is desirable.

Driver’s license is an asset.
