DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Reports to: Maintenance & Warehouse Supervisor
Responsibility: Performs various tasks assigned by the Laboratory Manager, or delegate, at the laboratory and sample preparation facility as listed below.
Duties: Performs assigned tasks in accordance with applicable standard operating procedures
Tasks include:
• Packing, labeling, storage and skidding of pulp and reject samples
• Cleaning of floors and storage units at the laboratory and sample preparation facility when required
• Assist in the disposal of slag and cupels on a weekly basis
• Removal of snow on walkways and driveways at the laboratory and application of sand/salt to surfaces where required
• Grass mowing when required
• Performs any other duties as directed by your supervisor, or designate, when schedule and workload permit.
Work Conditions:
• Normal work weeks are 5 days, Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day. Hours of work are arranged beforehand with the warehouse supervisor. Starting hours vary with the tasks assigned.
• Employees are entitled to two (2) fifteen-minute paid rest breaks, and one (1) thirty-minute unpaid lunch break each day. Breaks are scheduled by Laboratory Manager.
• No food or drink is to be stored and consumed in any of the work areas. No smoking is permitted in the laboratory or any closed area.
• Employees must follow all safety procedures at the laboratory and sample preparation facility. Safety equipment must be worn at all times in the laboratory where required I.E., safety glasses, dust masks, gloves, personal hearing protection devices and safety shoes. Employees are to report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Laboratory Manager or Safety Committee Representative.
• Lifting of heavy bags, cartons and other objects (less than 22KG).
• Employees may occasionally be required to work overtime and on weekends or holidays depending on business volume demands. The business can be cyclic depending on market, economic and climate conditions and weekly work hours may vary.
• Annual review of employee performance and remuneration by the Laboratory Manager.
• Probation period of 3 months during which employment may be terminated immediately without cause
Employment Requirements:
• Completion of secondary education.
• Physically fit, well organized and efficient
• Proficient in spoken and written English (French is an asset).
• Punctual, meticulous and reliable
• Courteous and respectful to fellow employees, customers and the public.
